Climate change impacts to increase in the Eastern Mediterranean!

Professor Dr. Abdulla Sakallı, Head of the Industrial Engineering Department at İskenderun Technical University and an expert on climate change impacts, stated that they have reported weather events around İskenderun and the Gulf region over the past 30 years and have developed models for the period up to 2100.

“The climate in the Eastern Mediterranean will become harsher every year; the number of tornadoes, temperatures and hail will increase. By 2100, the temperature in the Eastern Mediterranean will rise by 8.5 degrees Celsius,” he said.

Professor Dr. Abdulla Sakallı, Head of the Industrial Engineering Department at İskenderun Technical University and an expert on climate change impacts, stated that they have been monitoring the Eastern Mediterranean, particularly since 2017, regarding weather conditions that have been experiencing sudden rainfalls, strong winds and tornadoes, large-sized hail, and sudden temperature drops in recent years.

Professor Dr. Sakallı also noted that they have frequently reported weather events in eastern Mediterranean province of Hatay, especially around İskenderun and the Gulf region, over the past 30 years…
