Anchovy exports closed the first half of the year with an increase of 7 percent.
Türkiye’s 6-month anchovy exports, despite the low yield, increased by 7 percent in value compared to last year and reached 5 million 823 thousand 665 dollars.
According to the compilation made by the Eastern Black Sea Exporters’ Association (DKİB), anchovy was exported to 23 countries in the first half of the year from Türkiye, which has made a name for itself in aquaculture.
Anchovy exports, which were recorded as 5 million 458 thousand 703 dollars in the January-June 2022 period, rose by 7 percent in the same period of this year and reached 5 million 823 thousand 665 dollars.
Although the yield was not at the expected level due to climatic factors, the highest demand for anchovy, which closed its exports in the first half of the year with a rise, came from France, Belgium and the USA.
In the 6 months of the year, 2 million 351 thousand 228 anchovies were exported to France, 1 million 575 thousand 321 dollars to Belgium and 546 thousand 87 dollars to the USA.
Unlike the same period last year, anchovy was sold to Sweden, Uzbekistan, Iraq, Lebanon, Malaysia and Somalia in the first 6 months of this year.
“WE ARE HOPEFUL OF FISH EXPORTS”
Ahmet Hamdi Gürdoğan, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of DKİB, said that although the anchovy season is over, some companies continue to export their products until the beginning of the new season.
Stating that the amount of fish caught in anchovy remained low in the 2022-2023 season, Gürdoğan said, “This situation caused both high prices and product shortages. Therefore, despite the hike in our anchovy exports, it remained below the expected level.”
