‘Serince’ developed in Türkiye to be exported!

“Serince” Wheat Developed in Türkiye Prepares for Export…

The “Serince” bread wheat variety, developed by the GAP Agricultural Research Institute in Şanlıurfa province and widely used by farmers in the region, has achieved successful results in yield trials in Syria, paving the way for its export.

“Serince,” the product of approximately 12 years of breeding work by the GAP Agricultural Research Institute (GAPTAEM) in Şanlıurfa, was tested in trial fields established by the Syrian Research Institute, following its introduction to farmers in Türkiye, thanks to the initiatives of Barut Seed Company.

“Serince,” which ranks first among 20 wheat varieties in terms of yield, quality and disease resistance criteria, is planned to be put into production in Syria after the completion of the registration process.

GAPTAEM Director İbrahim Halil Çetiner told an Anatolian Agency (AA) reporter that developing a new wheat variety requires a long-term research process lasting 10 to 15 years.

Stating that each variety developed as a result of studies conducted using a gene pool containing approximately 3,000 genetic materials holds a unique value for them, Çetiner added that their goal is to further improve yield, quality and resistance with each new variety…
