New stars in exports: Ukraine, Djibouti and South Korea…

Commenting on the market composition, Chairman Veysel Memiş emphasised that a striking picture had emerged regarding the geographical distribution of exports in the first quarter of 2026.
“Syria ranked first with exports worth 40.8 million dollars and a 10 per cent share, whilst Iraq came second with 34.1 million dollars and an 8 per cent share and Sudan third with 19.9 million dollars and a 5 per cent share. Countries such as Ukraine, Djibouti, South Korea, Austria and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which saw the strongest growth in export volumes, represented the most tangible manifestations of the sector’s geographical diversification strategy on the ground,” he said.
Pointing out that the Ukrainian market achieved the most striking surge of the period, with a value of 10.9 million dollars and a 598 per cent increase, he noted, “This leap indicates a momentum too strong to be explained solely by a low base effect, whilst demonstrating that the restructuring of the supply chain in the region is creating new opportunities for Turkish exporters. In particular, the ability to adapt quickly enabled us to secure a significant position in this market within a short time. Djibouti, where we reached a value of 9.5 million dollars with a 127 per cent spike, stands out as a strategic trade gateway in the Horn of Africa. The growth recorded in this market is significant not only due to domestic demand but also because it serves as a distribution hub for neighbouring countries. The South Korean market, where we achieved exports worth 3.6 million dollars with a 127 per cent spike, attracts attention with its high standards and competitive structure; the growth achieved here demonstrates the level the sector has reached in terms of quality and product compatibility. This growth in the market serves as an important benchmark for the export of value-added and processed products.”
