Mehmet Akıncı, Chair of the Gaziantep Commodity Exchange (GTB), stated that the licensed warehouse for pistachios in Gaziantep province reached a transaction volume of 2,850 tonnes in 2024. The interest shown by producers in the licensed warehouse system creates a secure trading environment while providing financing facilities to farmers.

Announcing that the Gaziantep Pistachio Licensed Warehouse, established by GTB with the support of the Silk Road Development Agency, is ready to serve for the 2024-2025 production season, GTB Chair Akıncı said, “Although our licensed capacity is 2,000 tonnes, our total transaction volume reached 2,850 tonnes during the year. This figure clearly demonstrates both the producers’ trust in the licensed warehouse and the advantages offered by the system.”
Emphasising the strategic importance of pistachios for the economy of Gaziantep and the region, Akıncı noted that this product provides a source of income for approximately 200,000 people, either directly or indirectly.

Akıncı also highlighted that Antep pistachio producers have long needed a modern and secure storage system and that the licensed warehouse established by GTB fully addresses this need.
“Our products are now stored in a technologically advanced, insured and standard-compliant manner. This allows both producers and buyers to engage in trade in a secure environment. In addition to that price fluctuations in the free market have also been balanced out thanks to this system,” he added…
