Ali Çandır: Producer prices fail to keep up with the hikes

Ali Çandır, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Antalya Commodity Exchange (ATB) and the Antalya Agricultural Council (ATAK), evaluated the April Agricultural Input Price Index (Agriculture-GFE) data announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK).

Çandır emphasised that the announced figures created serious disadvantages for producers in terms of input costs.

RAPID INCREASE IN INPUT COSTS, DECLINE IN PRODUCER PRICES…

According to Agriculture-GFE data, agricultural input prices soared by 2.03 percent monthly and 30.12 percent annually in April. During the same period, the agricultural producer price index (Tarım-ÜFE) showed a 0.45 percent monthly decline. Çandır commented on this situation, stating, “Producers are at a disadvantage in terms of input costs both monthly and annually.”

“THE TREND IN FAVOUR OF PRODUCERS STOPPED IN MARCH AND REVERSED AGAIN IN APRIL”

Drawing attention to the unfavourable trend for producers since the last quarter of last year, Çandır said, “Although there was some recovery in March, the unfavourable trend for producers deepened again in April. This situation poses a serious risk for producers.”
