“PARIS AGREEMENT IS OF VITAL IMPORTANCE FOR THE FUTURE OF AGRICULTURE”

Press release…

İzmir Commodity Exchange Chairwoman Işınsu Kestelli and Assembly Speaker Barış Kocagöz made a statement on the subject after President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that the Paris Agreement would come to the agenda of the Parliament.

Kestelli and Kocagöz said that the Paris Agreement, which is one of the most important steps in the fight against the climate crisis, whose effects are felt more and more each year, is of vital importance for the future of agriculture and the healthy functioning of agricultural trade.

Kestelli and Kocagöz continued as follows:

“The announcement of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan that they plan to submit the Paris Climate Agreement to the Parliament next month is a great and positive development both for a livable world and for the future of our country. When the Paris Climate Agreement was signed 6 years ago, it was a ‘historic step’ for the climate and the environment, as it was described. Because this crisis is not a natural or natural event, it is a disaster created by man and its solution will only be possible if a rational and scientific approach and actions are taken together. The Paris Agreement is not a magic wand, but it is the only tool of this scale to establish international cooperation for global climate action.”

“We need to protect the environmental values felt all over the world much more than before. In addition to the Paris Agreement, taking the necessary measures is indispensable for humanity, as the current bad course of the climate shows. Besides, there is no country in the world that can stop the climate crisis alone; therefore, each country must contribute to the solution in proportion to its obligation and take responsibility. We believe that we will do our part as a country by taking steps and fulfilling the relevant regulations,” they added.

“We see the entry into force of the agreement with the approval of the parliament as a big step for our beautiful country, which is located in one of the geographies that will be most affected by climate change, both in order to be protected from this destruction and to create a healthy welfare society,” they concluded…
