Yalova Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Suat Parıldar said that they are trying to make Yalova an aronia (chokeberry) garden basin.
“At the same time, we have a geographical indication application as Yalova aronia,” Parıldar said.
Aronia production, known as the healing store in Yalova, is gradually increasing with the support of the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry.
Yalova province is going to be the centre of aronia production along with kiwi in Turkey, which started in October 2016 and is known for its antioxidant features. Yalova produces 50 percent of kiwi across Turkey too.
In Yalova, where many gardens have been established with the projects of the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, the farmers are satisfied with the yield and demand for the fruit they receive from production.
Farmers who sell one kg of the fruit at 85 liras try to meet demands coming from different regions while providing a significant income.
Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Suat Parıldar, who made a statement about the studies on Aronia, noted that the production trials of the fruit first started in 2012 at the Atatürk Horticultural Central Research Institute.
Reminding that the adaptation and registration of 2 types of aronia was carried out by the institute until 2016, Parıldar added, “At the same year, we started working on the dissemination of aronia as the directorate.”
