Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı stated that some industrial facilities carry out activities to reduce the income of milk producers and said, “We will withdraw one thousand tonnes of milk from the market daily to protect the producer.”
Emphasizing that Türkiye has 23 million tonnes of milk production and 50 percent of it goes to the industry, Minister Yumaklı explained, “We want to meet the domestic needs and reach the export targets by producing more milk and dairy products by taking more share of this milk from industrial facilities. In the last 2-3 weeks in our country, we have determined that some industrial facilities have been involved in some activities to reduce the income of the producer or to reduce prices, especially by issuing retrospective invoices. We are following these very closely with our Ministry of Trade. However, taking advantage of the opportunity, we have started a very intensive investigation process against those who want to evolve the environment towards their own interests.”
“We are taking measures to protect the producer”
Pointing out that necessary measures have been taken to protect milk producers, Minister Yumaklı added, “As the Ministry, we have taken a step as of last week to solve the milk surplus caused by both the increase in temperatures and the high production in this period with a regulation in order to protect the producers. We will withdraw approximately one thousand tonnes of daily milk from the market. If necessary, we will ramp up this figure. We will continue this regulation until the end of the year. This step is for regulation purposes. We are doing this to ensure that the product is not left in the hands of the producer.”
