VEYSEL MEMIS: WE EXPORTED 195.9 MILLION DOLLARS WITH AN INCREASE OF 8 PERCENT IN OCTOBER

“WE RAMPED UP OUR EXPORTS IN MORE THAN 80 COUNTRIES IN OCTOBER”

Veysel Memiş, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association (AHBİB), announced that they exported 195.9 million dollars in October with an 8 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Stating that they achieved an increase in export volume in more than 80 countries in the said period, Veysel Memiş emphasised that they achieved remarkable rises in China, India, Taiwan and Singapore markets.

“We are working hard to be effective in distant markets”

Indicating that they are working hard to boost their activities in distant markets with the additional support provided by the Ministry of Trade within the scope of the Far Countries Strategy, Memiş said, “In addition to developing the gains we have achieved in the Middle East, Africa and European Union countries, which are our traditional export markets, we are making important moves towards the 18 countries determined by the Ministry of Trade in the Far Countries Strategy. In this context, in October, we achieved a rise of up to 32 times in the Asian market in China, India, Taiwan and Singapore.”

Cereals

Noting that Iran, Iraq and Italy took the first three places in the list of countries to which they exported the most in October and that these three markets covered 36 percent of the region’s exports, Memiş explained, “The Iranian market, where we exported 41.5 million dollars with a spike of 627 percent, accounted for 21 percent of our regional exports. We exported 20.3 million dollars to Iraq, which has a 10 percent market share in the October exports of our Association and 10.8 million dollars to Italy, which has a 6 percent market share.”

“Our exports in the cereals product group surged more than 7 times”

Evaluating AHBİB’s October exports according to product groups, he underlined that they achieved a record spike of 739 percent in cereal exports. Reminding that AHBİB evaluated 344 thousand 278 tonnes of products in the international market in the 10th month of the year, he added, “In October, our Association reached the highest export value in pulses. From the sale of 67 thousand tonnes of pulses, we earned 55.1 million dollars in foreign currency. In the second place, we reached 157 thousand 256 tonnes and 37.9 million dollars in export value in the cereals product group. In the third place was the pastry products with a quantity of 31 thousand 257 tonnes and a value of 34.7 million dollars.”

“In the January-October period of 2023, the exports of the region reached 1 billion 755 million dollars with a hike of 7.9 percent,” he concluded…
