TURKIYE RANKS FIRST IN EUROPE IN TERMS OF FISHERIES!

Türkiye ranked first in Europe in the fishery sector…

Emrah Karayel, Chairman of the Türkiye Grand National Assembly (TBMM) Fisheries Research Commission, said that the fishery sector has risen to 1st place in Europe and 17th place in the world in 2023 with the supports provided since 2003.

Noting that very serious supports have been provided to aquaculture producers since 2003, Karayel stated that with the new supports announced by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, payments ranging from 1-3 liras per kilogram will be made to the breeders.

“Efficient, sustainable and respectful to nature”

Stating that the fisheries is one of the most important sectors in exports, Karayel said, “In 2003, the aquaculture sector was almost non-existent compared to now. In aquaculture, we very quickly became the 1st in Europe and 17th in the world. This happened thanks to the supports made in the last 20 years. The export of the aquaculture sector in 2023 is 1.7 billion dollars. We are in a net exporter position in this sector, we do not have a very serious import. The aquaculture sector achieved the target of 1 billion dollars set for this year in 2020 and reached almost 2 billion dollars in 2023. According to this calculation, I think the sector will see 2.5 billion dollars in 2024.”
