Veysel Memiş, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association (AHBİB), announced that they had achieved exports worth 140.8 million dollars in February. Chairman Veysel Memiş emphasised that, despite fluctuations in global demand, product diversity and value-added production played a balancing role in exports, stating, “In February, our regional exports showed a slight decline compared to the same period last year; however, thanks to the strong performance of our processed food products and our broad product portfolio, our exports are maintaining their high level in a stable manner.”

Assessing the impact of global developments on the sector, Chairman Veysel Memiş noted that rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East are directly affecting regional trade flows, adding that the sharp rise in logistics costs is complicating export planning. “The tension in the Middle East is placing significant pressure on the security and cost structure of trade routes. The climate of uncertainty in the region is directly affecting both trade flows and price balances. During this process, opportunistic approaches that speculatively inflate costs pose a significant risk for exporters,” he said.
Pointing out that the rise in freight and operational costs is not limited to transport charges alone, highlighting that additional premiums imposed due to the risk of war are rapidly driving up logistics costs. “In addition to freight charges, loading and unloading fees, port services, insurance premiums and risk premiums have also risen significantly. In particular, the additional guarantees and insurance premiums applied on the grounds of war risk have multiplied total logistics costs. This increase, which has reached four to five times the previous level in a short period, is making cost calculations for exporters unpredictable,” he concluded…
