TRABZON…
According to data compiled by an Anadolu Agency (AA) correspondent from the Eastern Black Sea Exporters’ Association (DKİB), Turkish tea—distinguished as the only tea in the world upon which snow falls—was sold to 119 countries, autonomous regions and free trade zones during the January–September period.
In this context, 3,360 tonnes of tea were exported in the first nine months of the year, generating 25,021,548 dollars in revenue. The United Kingdom, Belgium and the USA were the top destinations for these exports.
During the January–September period, Türkiye sold tea worth 6,366,050 dollars to the United Kingdom, 5,989,977 dollars to Belgium and 1,804,526 dollars to the USA.
Additionally, 1,820 tonnes of tea were exported from the Black Sea region’s province of Rize to 25 countries—led by Belgium—during the same nine-month period.

Rize province, which alone accounted for 37 percent of Türkiye’s total tea exports by value, generated 9,205,793 dollars in revenue from these exports.
“We expect our exports to gain momentum, especially in the final months of the year”
Mustafa Okutan, a Board Member of DKİB and Head of the Tea Sector Committee, told the AA correspondent that the nine-month period had been positive for the Turkish tea export sector. Okutan stated that the distinctive characteristics, high-quality production and strong image—closely linked to the Rize region—of Turkish tea have boosted international interest in the product.
Noting that the diversity of export destinations is a significant indicator for the sector, Okutan said, “The high number of countries to which we export demonstrates the growing recognition of Turkish tea across various regions. Furthermore, in addition to increasing our share in existing markets, we aim to reach markets where we do not yet have a significant presence.”

Emphasizing a positive outlook for the remainder of the year, Okutan added, “We expect our exports to gain momentum, particularly in the final months of the year. Our goal is to surpass last year’s figures in terms of both volume and export revenue by year-end. As sector representatives, we are continuing our efforts to achieve this.”
Highlighting the importance placed on market diversification to bring Turkish tea to consumers in more countries, Okutan remarked:
“Merely enhancing exports to our current markets is not enough; we need to identify new markets and further promote Turkish tea within them. We are striving to raise awareness across diverse regions by particularly emphasizing the quality, naturalness and unique production characteristics of Turkish tea.”
Okutan added that further increasing the number of export destinations remains a priority for the sector in the coming period…
