BEDRI GIRIT: TURKISH FISHERY INDUSTRY CONTINUES TO BREAK NEW RECORDS

Bedri Girit, Chair of Aegean Aquaculture and Animal Products Exporters’ Association, stated that Aegean aquaculture producers have made great investments in aquaculture in the last 25 years and noted that they have broken new records in exports every year with their increasing capacity since the beginning of the 2000s and that they are among the star sectors of exports.

Indicating that their exports of aquaculture products, which was 59 million dollars in 2000, reached 1 billion 40 million dollars in the January-November period of 2023, Girit said that they aim to close the year 2023 with 1 billion 150 million dollars of aquaculture products exports in the Aegean Region and that they will bring 1.7 billion dollars of foreign currency in Türkish economy.

Sharing the information that sea bass is the leading product with 445 million dollars in aquaculture exports, Girit said, “346 million dollars from sea bream exports, 149 million dollars from Turkish salmon exports, 60 million dollars from trout exports, and 40 million dollars from other aquaculture exports.”

Italy, England and Russia were the top three countries…

Pointing out that Italy was the first country with 130 million dollars in fishery exports, followed by the UK with 128.6 million dollars and the Russian Federation with 127 million dollars, Girit added, “Aegean fishermen succeeded in exporting fishery products worth 108 million dollars to the Netherlands and 91 million dollars to Greece.”
