The drought has started, the occupancy rate in dams is at a critical level Agricultural yield decreases…
What is the latest situation in Konya province, known as Turkey’s granary?
While drought has a negative impact across Turkey, the situation is no different in Konya province which is known as the country’s granary.
Rıfat Kavuneker, President of the Karatay District Chamber of Agriculture, said, “There is no rainfall near 28 of our 31 districts. Water needs to be transferred to this region urgently. Without the Blue Tunnel, agriculture would have ended in Çumra and Karatay districts of Konya. Yet while there is life, there is hope. But we are experiencing a yield loss of 10 percent.”
“If there is no rainfall, there will be no such a thing as harvest,” Kavuneker noted.
Konya Chamber of Agricultural Engineers Chairman MuratAkbulut added that they had 80 millimetres of rainfall in 2019, however it has dropped to 30 millimetres this year.
