The export journey of dried figs, the fruit of Eden, will begin on September 30
The first export journey of the Turkish dried figs, indispensable for Christians’ Christmas tables, to decorate the world’s tables, will begin on September 30, 2020.
Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association held an online Dried Fruit and Products Industry Board Meeting and subsequently a General Assembly Meeting at advisory level, so as to identify the first date of dried fig exports.
During the meeting, Turkey Dried Fruit Industry Board’s proposed date of September 30, 2020 as the day of the first ship loading at export dried figs was adopted unanimously.
Birol Celep, Chairman of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association, stated that although the official harvest has not yet been announced by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, a slight decrease is expected in the harvest of 2020 dried figs compared to the previous year and that the product quality has also decreased. He noted that it is such a product that it becomes ready for export after a labour-intensive process along with control and analysis.
