Red beet, which draws attention with its many benefits from the immune system to the digestive system, from the fight against cardiovascular diseases to its energizing effect, is grown in the Kutören quarter of Konya’s Ereğli district.
Red beet is not widely produced across Turkey, but in general, used as natural food colourants in pasta and bakery products such as bread.
Food Engineer Orhan Özmen said that the product has a strong antioxidant effect and the positive effects of fighting the virus during the pandemic process we are in are known due to its effect on strengthening the body’s immune system.
Özmen said, “It is used in energy drinks, protein supplements and baby food. It is also used for colouring natural food coloring, fresh vegetables, pickles and bakery products.”
Özmen added, “Although produced 30 thousand tons across Turkey, we export our products to 25 countries and 11 thousand tons annually as raw materials in the process plant.”
“It is a product that is grown in April and May and harvested in August between 90 and 110 days. It is planted to 45 centimetres like sugar beet and harvested with the same equipment. Actually it is similar to sugar beet production,” Özmen concluded…
