The ESA General Assembly, held annually in a different member country, addressed the current technical agenda of the spice and medicinal aromatic plants sector, sustainability, quality standards, food safety, and regulations affecting international trade.
Şükrü Altuntaş, Board Member of the Aegean Furniture, Paper and Forestry Products Exporters Association, participated as a speaker in the panel session on Pyrrolizidine Alkaloids (PA) held within the scope of the General Assembly programme. Altuntaş shared the views of the Turkish spice and medicinal-aromatic plants sector with international participants, evaluating the fundamental challenges encountered in the agricultural and processing chain, from producer to final consumer, from the perspectives of farmers, processors and exporters.
Emphasizing that in the January-May 2026 period, Türkiye’s overall spice exports surged by 14 percent to 112 million dollars, Altuntaş said, “Spice exports from our association soared by 20 percent to 78 million dollars. 69% of spice exports originate from the Aegean Region. ESA contributes to the development of commercial collaborations, while also enabling the establishment of a strong communication network among sector stakeholders and the conduct of effective lobbying activities at the international level.”
“With the contribution of the commercial connections to be established after this organization, we aim to boost our spice exports to 1 billion dollars within 10 years,” Altuntaş added…
