SUAT PARILDAR: ARONIA FRUIT IS THE 24 CARAT GOLD FOR YALOVA REGION

Growers preparing for the harvest of the fruit, whose geographical indication has been registered this year under the name “Yalova aronia”, expect high yields.

Yalova aronia, which has antioxidant properties and is known as “super fruit”, has become one of the agricultural income sources of the northwestern province of Turkey.

Suat Parıldar

Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Director Suat Parıldar, who examined the gardens in Şenköy village of Çınarcık district, described the Yalova aronia as the “24 carat gold” of the region.

Stating that the crop was registered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT) in June, Parıldar said that after this development, the first harvest will begin towards the end of the month.

Stating that 72.5 percent of Yalova’s agricultural lands are 5 decares or less, Parıldar explained, “We need to focus on crops with high added value per unit area. Aronia is one of crops we are focusing on. We are currently producing aronia on an area of 150 decares. The place we are currently in is also an organic certified aronia garden. We have an area of 90 decares of organic farming completed throughout the province. By the end of 2021, we have 160 decares of land. We aim to increase the aronia production area in Yalova to over 300 decares by establishing a new production area.”

“We also want to increase the organic production in aronia to 50 percent with the new areas to be established in the province,” Parıldar added…
