BİROL CELEP: FIRST SHIPMENT DATE OF DRIED FIGS DETERMINED AS OCTOBER 6

Dried fig exporting companies that are members of Exporters’ Associations, representatives of the Ministry of Commerce and Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TİM) came together online at the Dried Fig Advisory General Assembly Meeting.

Birol Celep, Chairperson of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association, said: “Based on the ripening period and climatic conditions of dried figs, which is one of the most important agricultural export products of our country, it has been decided to submit the first shipment date of the 2021 season to the approval of the Ministry of Trade as October 6, 2021. This date, which was determined at the meeting and approved by the Dried Fruit Sector Board, will become official after the approval of the Ministry of Trade and will enter into force.”

Sharing the information that dried fig exports were realized as 67.2 thousand tonnes with an increase of 2 percent compared to the same period of the previous season and obtained 241 million dollars with an increase of 4 percent in value from September 30, 2020, the beginning of the 2020 season, until August 28, 2021, Celep continued his words as follows:

“The top 5 countries to which we export the most in this product year; Germany, the USA, France, Italy and Switzerland. Dried fig harvest field studies have been completed in the provinces of Aydın and İzmir in recent weeks by our Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. We expect the official announcement to be made by Bekir Pakdemirli, our Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, in the coming days.”

“At the meeting, according to the information obtained from the technical team of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association and from the observations of some sector stakeholders in the production regions; It was also discussed that the extreme heat that occurred at the end of July and the beginning of August caused problems such as defoliation in the trees in some regions and its possible negative effects on yield,” Celep added…
