Sami Karaoğlan: Agriculture is our future but we need contract farming!

Press release…

Agricultural production must be reformed!

The future of agriculture: Regional product basins contract farming should be introduced!

Sami Karaoğlan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Akhisar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ATSO), emphasised that the only solution to the recent increase in food prices and the products left in the field is agricultural reform.

Stating that urgent reforms are needed for the sustainability and efficiency of the agricultural sector, ATSO Chairman Sami Karaoğlan emphasized that there are serious problems in the agriculture and agriculture-based industry sector due to wrong practices and incomplete policies. Karaoğlan said, “Agriculture is our future. However, we can build this future by implementing the right and realistic policies that will meet the food supply and ensure the growth of our industrialists.”

EXPORT BANS ARE UNACCEPTABLE…

Karaoğlan also indicated that the export bans and restrictions imposed on agricultural products from time to time lead to loss of income due to the stock spike of the industrialist and most importantly loss of customers. “This situation negatively affects the industry and the producer. Since the farmer cannot sell the product, national wealth rots in the field. In the following years, we become unable to meet the food supply due to wrong planting and planting. This leads to the blockage of the whole system. Bans and restrictions protect neither our farmers, agriculture-based industrialists nor consumers,” he explained.

REGIONAL PRODUCT BASINS SHOULD BE ESTABLISHED…

Pointing out that the ‘Regional Crop Basins’, which the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has been working on for 10 years, should now be put into practice in order to solve the problems in the sector and stated that some criteria are of great importance in the creation of these basins, Karaoğlan added, “The presence of underground and surface water resources in these basins is important. In addition, logistic efficiency, quality, import and export, and most importantly, farmers should be guided with incentives and supports according to the needs of the country.”
