Agricultural production starts in the shadow of clean energy!

Press release…

Azra Galvaniz, which has the largest production power in the Aegean Region in its sector in its facilities with an annual hot-dip galvanising capacity of 100 thousand tonnes in İzmir’s Aliağa district, has implemented the Agrivoltaic Solar Energy System project known as Agriculture SPP.

Recep Özekinci

With the project, which has very few examples in Türkiye, a part of the energy consumed by Azra Galvaniz is met from the energy produced by the power plant, while agricultural production under the solar panels creates value to the national economy in a different dimension.

120 PANELS WERE USED…

Giving information about the project, Recep Özekinci, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Azra Galvaniz, pointed out that the iron and steel industry is among the energy-intensive sectors in the manufacturing industry and emphasised that they see the production of equipment for solar power plants as a strategic investment area.

Emphasising that the company has become an energy investor by commissioning its own Agriculture SPP project, Özekinci said, “Investing in renewable energy sources and increasing agricultural production are among the most critical needs of countries today. At this point, as Azra Galvaniz, we have implemented an application that will be an example for our energy investors in our land adjacent to our factory in Aliağa district. We used 120 panels in our power plant with an installed power of 50 Kilowatt (kW). The steel constructions carrying the panels are located at a height of 3.80 metres above the ground and their design is made in a way to collect rainwater and irrigate the products in the soil. In addition, by obtaining energy, which is the most important input of agricultural production, from renewable sources, we make an additional contribution to nature and the national economy.”

Recep Özekinci added that Azra Galvaniz has reached the level of meeting all of its self-consumption from renewable energy sources…
