Veysel Memiş, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association (AHBİB), stated that the announced grain purchase prices are at a level that will meet the expectations and that the projections for an increase in crop production estimations despite the effects of global climate change are also pleasing.
Noting that they expect a productive season in the production of cereals, pulses and oilseeds in the light of their meetings with farmers all over the country, AHBİB Chair Veysel Memiş said, “According to the estimations of the Turkish Statistical Institute, this year wheat production is expected to be 19.5 million tons with a rise of 10.5 percent and maize to be 7 million tons with a rise of 3.7 percent.
“It is predicted that barley production will soar by 47.8 percent to 8.5 million tons, rye production will soar by 35 percent to 270 thousand tons, oat production will soar by 26.8 percent to 350 thousand tons,” he added.
“It is also estimated that chickpeas, one of the important products of legumes, will increase by 22.1 percent to 580 thousand tons and red lentils will increase by 75.4 percent to 400 thousand tons. It is understood that there will be increases in other product groups as well. We look forward to a good and fruitful season,” he concluded…
