AGRICULTURE CENSUS ON THE WAY!

A step has been taken for the general data census, which has been expected for years in the field of agriculture and animal husbandry. Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı announced that with the protocol signed between the General Directorate of Agricultural Reform and Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT), all kinds of data will be counted and statistics will be created in the sector. Thanks to the protocol stated by Minister Yumaklı, the period of data-based strategy development in agriculture begins.

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı announced that the step that will start the long-awaited census and data recording in the sector has been taken. Minister Yumaklı unveiled that the “Protocol on Conducting General Agricultural Census” was signed between the General Directorate of Agricultural Reform and the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT); Yumaklı said that within the scope of the protocol, all agricultural data such as statistics, enterprise information, number of animals, land information will be counted and recorded.

Yumaklı emphasised that the Ministry has been preparing the infrastructure for the general agricultural census for some time and that the road map to be followed was determined in meetings held with relevant institutions and underlined that the general agricultural census will be one of the determining factors in the implementation of innovative regulations that will guide agricultural production.

NUMBER OF LIVESTOCK AND LAND INFORMATION WILL ALSO BE INCLUDED

Stating that all agricultural data such as statistics, enterprise information, number of animals, land information will be counted and recorded with the study, Minister Yumaklı gave the following information: “By conducting a general agricultural census in cooperation with TURKSTAT, we will direct our practices that will form the focal point of our agricultural and livestock policies such as planned production and contracted production.”

“With the Protocol on the General Agricultural Census, one of the most important steps of the transition to the planned production model in agriculture has been taken. In the first phase of the general agricultural census, agricultural lands that are not included in the existing administrative records will be identified and agricultural enterprises engaged in agricultural activities on these lands will be identified,” he added.

“Preliminary screening activities, preparation of questionnaires and data entry programmes, information, training and promotion activities will be carried out. In the second stage, based on the information obtained in the first stage, data on variables determined in line with international requirements and national needs will be compiled from the field and the data to be obtained will be shared with the public,” he concluded…
