We are set to experience the most abundant bonito season in recent years.”

Ramazan Özkaya, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Central Union of Fishery Cooperatives (SÜRKOOP), spoke to an Anatolian Agency (AA) correspondent about the fishing season set to begin at sea on 1 September.
Recalling that, for the first time this year, the mackerel and blue mackerel fishing season for small-scale fishermen has been brought forward by 15 days to begin on 15 August, Özkaya reported that the use of gillnets has also been permitted for the first time.
Indicating that the bonito fishing season had begun and that industrial fishermen would take to the waters on 1 September, he noted, “There is plenty of bonito this year; all the signs point to this. We are set to experience the most abundant bonito season in recent years. In other words, there will be bonito on everyone’s dinner table.”
