QUALITY-BASED RAW MILK PRICING MODEL SHOULD BE REQUIRED!

National Milk Council (USK) executives who visited Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli demanded that the raw milk recommendation price to be determined under the umbrella of USK, as in previous periods. USK executives also stated that a quality-based raw milk pricing model should be implemented.

President of the National Milk Council (USK) Professor Dr. Muhittin Özder, Vice President Tevfik Keskin and Council Member of the Board of Directors Recep Ateş, representing dairy industrialists, visited Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli in his office. Deputy Minister M. Hadi Tunç and the General Director of Livestock Zekeriya Erdurmuş were also present at the visit.

“Raw milk price should be determined based on quality”

Milk prices were also on the agenda of the visit, where current developments in the dairy sector such as quality-based and parity pricing, seasonal supply-demand balance in raw milk were evaluated. Council officials conveyed to Minister Pakdemirli that the studies for determining the raw milk recommendation price should be under the umbrella of the National Milk Council as in previous periods and also explained the importance of implementing a quality-based raw milk pricing model.

Regarding the issue, President Dr. Özder said:

“The dairy industry is a very dynamic industry. Sudden changes in costs and fluctuations in supply and demand must be responded quickly. We have expressed to our Minister that we, as the National Milk Council, are ready to do our part in this matter. It made us happy to see that we are at the same point with him in terms of solutions to problems.”

“In addition, as in Europe, the classification of milk and transition to a pricing model based on quality were also discussed during our meeting. The studies of our ministry on this subject are very important for us. We are sure that more important steps will be taken in terms of quality,” Dr. Özder noted.

The determined price will be valid until the end of April…

At the meeting, current developments in the dairy market were also evaluated. It was emphasized that the milk recommendation price of 2.80 TL, which was announced by USK last month and is valid as of January 1, will be in effect until the end of April.
