ÖDEMİŞ MEATBALLS REGISTERED; A TRADITIONAL TASTE OF THE REGION

A geographical indication registration certificate was issued by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office for Ödemiş (a district of İzmir) Meatballs with plenty of butter, made from semolina and veal.

Organized in cooperation with the Antalya Commodity Exchange (ATB) and Antalya Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, “What is Your Place Famous For?” Chairmen of Bergama, Ödemiş and Tire Chamber of Commerce and İzmir Agriculture and Forestry Provincial Director Mustafa Özen attended the online program.

Rıfat Eriş, Chairman of Ödemiş Chamber of Commerce, said that İzmir has 27 geographically indicated products in the program.

“Our Ödemiş Meatballs is now a registered product”

Noting that Ödemiş hosts many local products, Eriş said, “I want to give good news from here. We received a geographical indication for the Ödemiş Meatballs that we applied for last year. Our Ödemiş Meatballs with plenty of butter made of semolina and beef is now a registered product.”

Fikret Ürper, Chairman of the Board of Bergama District Chamber of Commerce, underlined that they exported 95 percent of Bergama Kozak Pine Nuts, for which they received geographical indication.

Tire District Chamber of Commerce Chairman Mehmet Nadir Delikanlı stated that they took the geographical indication with the application they made when “Tire Beledi Weaving”, a traditional product of 500 years, was about to be forgotten.
