“NUTS AND DRIED FRUITS ARE AN IMPORTANT PART OF A HEALTHY DIET”

Twenty five scientists from around the world met at NUTS 22 organized by the International Nut and Dried Fruits Council (INC) to reveal the health benefits of dried fruits with all their sides.

At the meeting chaired by Prof. Jordi Salas-Salvado, a lecturer at Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association Board Member and International Dry and Nuts Council (INC) Ambassador to Türkiye Ahmet Bilge Göksan said that nuts and dried fruits are an important part of a healthy diet.

Expressing that dried and peeled fruits have many benefits for human health, Göksan said, “They are all foods that have beneficial effects on health. It contains mono and polyunsaturated fats, fibre, vitamin minerals, polyphenols and antioxidants and dried fruits contain essential nutrients and bioactive compounds such as health-promoting antioxidants.”

We should also increase domestic consumption…

Noting that Türkiye is the world leader in the production of many dried and shelled fruits, especially seedless raisins, dried figs, dried apricots and hazelnuts, Göksan emphasized that despite the country’s global leadership in the production and export of dried fruits, which are healthy products, Türkiye’s domestic consumption is very limited.

Göksan added that they will make efforts to ramp up the consumption of dried fruit per capita in Türkiye in the coming years and they will focus on promotional activities that will rise the consumption of dried fruit especially for children and Z generation…
