Warning from Ayvalık Mayor Mesut Ergin to consumers purchasing Ayvalık olive oil online!
‘Choose Geographically Indicated Products’
Ayvalık Mayor Mesut Ergin recommended that consumers, when purchasing Ayvalık olive oil online from their cities of residence without visiting Balıkesir’s district of Ayvalık, should prefer geographically indicated products. Mayor Mesut Ergin warned citizens, stating, “Ayvalık Olive Oil is a geographical product. This is because, at the very least, the rate at which our consumers are deceived by these fraudulent companies will decrease.”

Emphasising that they expect Ayvalık Olive Oil to be registered with the EU in a short time, Mayor Mesut Ergin said, “The products of Ayvalık industrialists and boutique companies will also take their place on the shelves of markets in European countries. There are already very serious initiatives and efforts in this direction. The Ayvalık Chamber of Commerce, in particular, is making serious efforts in this direction. As the Municipality of Ayvalık, we are also making serious efforts to obtain geographical indication and patent registrations for olive oil and other gastronomic values. For five years, we have been working hard to ensure that Ayvalık cuisine and its gastronomic delights reach their rightful place.”
Highlighting that as they emphasize every time, Ayvalık is a city of gastronomy, he added, ” Of course, the main element of being a city of gastronomy is olive oil. In addition to olive oil, seafood and herbs are some of these elements. Olive oil is indispensable in the preparation of these flavours. Ayvalık is extremely fortunate in this regard.
