Ferhat Gürüz: Turkish fresh fruit and vegetable sector rising in the global spotlight

Press release…

Ferhat Gürüz, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association, announced that Türkiye exported 240.3 million dollars worth of fresh fruit and vegetables in September. Stating that the total export volume decreased by 55 per cent compared to the same period last year, while the decline in export revenue remained limited at 10 per cent, Gürüz said, “This picture shows that despite the loss in volume, the sector has achieved an increase in unit prices and has shifted towards the export of value-added products.”

‘The Turkish fresh fruit and vegetable sector maintains its strong position on the world stage’

Pointing out that as the leader of Türkiye’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports, he noted, “We successfully organised national participation in the Asia Fruit Logistica, World Food Moscow and Fruit Attraction fairs in September.” He also reported that they carried out marketing activities in Poland within the scope of the Fresh Fruit, Vegetable and Citrus Cluster International Competitiveness Development (UR-GE) Project.

Emphasising that participating in prestigious international fairs is of great importance in terms of promoting the quality and competitiveness of Turkish producers to the world, Gürüz explained, “This promotional chain, stretching from Hong Kong to Warsaw and from Moscow to Madrid, has increased interest in Turkish fresh fruit and vegetable products across a wide geography from Asia to Europe. At every fair, we stand out with the modern design of our Turkish pavilion, our digital promotional tools and our strong organisational capabilities.”

Highlighting that they are focusing on strategic market diversification and sustainable export infrastructure to ramp up Türkiye’s share in the global fresh fruit and vegetable trade, Gürüz concluded, “There is an intense demand for Turkish products in Asian markets as well as in Russia and European Union countries. The results we have achieved in the export of apples, citrus fruits, grapes and figs demonstrate the validity of our strategy based on branding and quality. Our exporters are establishing new trade links through these organisations we carry out in different parts of the world, representing the strength, continuity and reliability of Turkish agriculture.”
