MAHSUM ALTUNKAYA: 73 PERCENT OF TURKEY’S PASTA EXPORTS ARE MADE FROM GAZİANTEP REGION

Southeastern Anatolia Region, which meets 29.1 percent of Turkey’s exports of cereals, pulses, oilseeds and products, achieved an export of 1 billion 214 million 635 thousand dollars in the first half of the year. Mahsum Altunkaya, Chairman of the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TIM) Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Sector Board, said that 73 percent of Turkey’s pasta exports are made from Gaziantep province.

Altunkaya said, “As Gaziantep region and Southeastern Anatolia Exporters’ Associations (GAİB), we are in the first place in flour export. We are in a good position in biscuit-pastry products too. The fertile lands of the Southeast give this region a special importance for exporters of cereals, pulses, oilseeds and products. By the end of the year, we hope that our region will reach 2 billion 500 million dollars.”

“We are determined to use the opportunities we have in the coming periods. We see that the water of the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) Dam now reaches Kızıltepe district. I hope we will make use of the Kızıltepe and Nusaybin plains next year and get a lot of efficiency from these lands,” Altunkaya added.
