Mehmet Cirav: One third of hazelnut exports comes from Trabzon province

In the first two months of 2025, Türkiye exported 52,346 tonnes of hazelnuts, resulting in a foreign currency inflow of 426.5 million dollars.

Compared to the same period the previous year, the export quantity remained the same, but the value surged by 6 percent.

Mehmet Cirav, Chairman of the Hazelnut and Hazelnut Products Sector Committee of the Eastern Black Sea Exporters’ Association (DKİB), revealed that these exports went to 95 different countries, with the top five destinations being Italy, Germany, France, the Netherlands and Poland. In the first half of the hazelnut export season, which began in September, Türkiye received a foreign currency inflow of 1.52 billion dollars from exporting 187,172 tonnes of hazelnuts. This represents a 12 percent hike in quantity and a 26 percent hike in value compared to the previous year.

Giving information about hazelnut exports from Trabzon province, Cirav said, “In the first two months of 2025, 15 thousand 939 tonnes of hazelnut exports from Trabzon region in return for 142 million 998 thousand dollars of foreign currency inflow was provided, compared to the same period of the previous year, the amount of exports decreased by 1 percent, while the value increased by 13 percent.

Stating that Trabzon province ranks 1st in hazelnut exports, Cirav noted, “34 percent of the hazelnut exports from our country in January-February 2025 were carried out by Trabzon province alone.”

“In the first half of the 2024/2025 export season, 52 thousand 690 tonnes of 471 million 577 thousand dollars worth of exports were made from Trabzon and that there was an increase of 31 percent in quantity and 61 percent in value compared to the same period of the previous season,” he added…
