Operational emission reduction is essential for climate targets…
Dr. Hüdai Kara, Founder and CEO of Metsims, which provides strategic consulting services in the field of sustainability, emphasised that carbon offsetting alone does not solve the climate crisis and carries the risk of greenwashing. He stressed that companies must first focus on direct emission reduction by transforming their own operations.
Although carbon offsetting is seen by many companies as a practical tool for balancing emissions in the short term, this approach carries serious risks when not supported by direct emission reduction. It is becoming increasingly important for companies to adopt a holistic approach centred on emission reduction in order to create a lasting and reliable impact on their climate goals.
Highlighting that such structural transformations not only reduce the carbon footprint but also provide long-term cost advantages and operational resilience, Metsims CEO Dr. Hüdai Kara said, “Today, energy efficiency, process optimisation, the use of low-carbon raw materials and renewable energy investments are among the priority steps for companies.”
