Gaziantep Commodity Exchange (GTB) Chairman Mehmet Akıncı, in his message published on the occasion of 15 May World Climate Day, said that climate change has become one of the biggest global threats to humanity.

Climate change impacts various aspects of life, including agriculture, industry, economy and health, disrupting the balance of life and leading to more frequent extreme weather events like droughts and floods.
Akıncı highlights the depletion of water resources, declining agricultural yields, and increasing economic losses in regions most affected by climate change, emphasising the urgent need for action to prevent irreversible consequences. Akıncı also stresses the importance of holistic policies at all levels to combat climate change by increasing renewable energy investments, reducing carbon emissions, promoting a green economy and encouraging sustainable agricultural practices.
Underlining the significance of global cooperation in adhering to international environmental agreements like the Paris Agreement and ensuring developed countries provide technology and financial support to developing nations. Akıncı added, “We want to urge collaboration among private sector, public and civil society to address the climate crisis and protect nature for future generations.”
