Malaysia’s Consul General in Istanbul, Ahmad Amiri Abu Bakar, announced that Türkiye is Malaysia’s fifth largest palm oil export destination, with a total export value of approximately 1 billion dollars and 1.1 million metric tonnes.
The Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) brought together Malaysian palm oil producers, global buyers and end users at the Malaysian Palm Oil Forum held in Istanbul.
In his speech, Abu Bakar stated that he was proud to share that Türkiye is Malaysia’s largest trading partner in the region, noting that trade between Malaysia and Türkiye surged by 18 per cent in 2024 compared to the previous year, rising from 4.46 billion to 5.28 billion dollars.

Abu Bakar said that the spike in trade volume continued into 2025, with bilateral trade rising 7.2 per cent to 3.25 billion dollars in the January-July period.
Pointing out that Malaysia’s exports to Türkiye surged by 6.7 per cent to reach 2.76 billion dollars, Abu Bakar said, “Türkiye is Malaysia’s fifth largest palm oil export destination, with a total export value of approximately 1 billion dollars and 1.1 million metric tonnes.
“We are determined to preserve 50 per cent of our land as forest cover and out palm oil production is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the European Union’s deforestation regulation and that no forests have been harmed,” he noted.

‘The palm oil industry is one of the cornerstones of Malaysia’s national economy’
MPOC Chief Executive Belvinder Sron also stated that Türkiye is one of its largest and most dynamic markets, saying, “The palm oil industry stands out as one of the cornerstones of Malaysia’s national economy.”
Highlighting that Malaysia has become the world’s second largest palm oil producer, contributing 24 per cent to the global palm oil supply, Sron said, “We earned 24 billion dollars from palm oil and palm oil product exports last year, therefore palm oil is the country’s most valuable agricultural export product.”
“Palm oil exports support more than 450,000 small farmers and contribute 3 per cent to the Gross Domestic Product, as a result Malaysia’s palm oil production reached 19.3 million tonnes last year,” Sron added…
