KASTAMONU ÜRYANİ PLUM RECEIVES GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATION!

“Kastamonu Üryani Plum” was given a geographical indication registration certificate by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.

In the written statement made by Daday (a district of Kastamonu province) Municipality, it was wished that the registration would be beneficial for the district, Kastamonu and Turkey.

Emphasizing that the recognition of the Üryani Plum will increase with the registration, the following was noted:

“Üryani Plum is the main product of Kastamonu. This crop is a valuable fruit of Kastamonu region, which is also sent to foreign countries. The fresh fruit of Üryani Plum is called Red Plum (Ala Erik). The peeled and dried form of Red Plum is called Üryani Plum. The hull of the Red Plum fruit is peeled to dry it. The peeled plums are lined up one by one on clean pine boards. The places where the boards are placed should be exposed to sunlight and away from dust and moisture. Plums are left to dry for 15 days. Dried plums have a rich source of fibre. Üryani Plum compote (stewed fruit) is one of the constant flavours of Kastamonu cuisine.”
