Press release…

May, 2026

Türkiye is gearing up for a bountiful season for peaches and nectarines. The first harvest ceremony of the season for peaches and nectarines took place in Selçuk district of Izmir province. Over a four-month period in 2026, exports of peaches and nectarines rose by 347 percent to 90 million dollars. The target for peach and nectarine exports has been set at 250 million dollars.

Kahraman Akdoğan, Director of the İzmir Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, stated that 13 percent of Türkiye’s peach production takes place in İzmir region. He noted that 38,000 tonnes of peaches were produced across 16,000 decares in Selçuk district, adding that 67 percent of İzmir’s peach production is grown in Selçuk.

Emphasising that this year’s peach harvest began two weeks late due to weather conditions, Akdoğan said: “The peach harvest usually begins in the first week of May. This year, the harvest was slightly delayed due to seasonal conditions. The first three lorries of peaches from Selçuk region have been exported and exports will increase after Eid al-Adha. The type of peach produced in Selçuk is suitable for export and has a long shelf life. The peach harvest will continue until the end of July. I hope this will be a productive and bountiful season for our producers and exporters.”
