May, 2026

Every year, 1 June is celebrated as ‘World Milk Day’ with the aim of raising public awareness about milk—the world’s most beneficial drink—and encouraging consumption to reach adequate levels. World Milk Day, celebrated to raise public awareness of the importance of milk for health, presents a significant opportunity to highlight the value of milk.

Whilst global annual per capita consumption of milk and dairy products stands at approximately 120 kg, annual per capita consumption of drinking milk in Türkiye is around 39 kg. It is evident that milk consumption in the country is at very low levels compared to the rest of the world and European countries. Experts recommend a minimum of two glasses of milk per day for children, adolescents, pregnant and breastfeeding women and those aged 65 and over.

Highlighting that annual per capita milk consumption in our country is approximately 39 kilograms, whereas this figure stands at around 120 kilograms in EU countries and the US, Pınar Süt (Dairy) Board Chairwoman İdil Yiğitbaşı emphasised that increasing milk consumption in the country is crucial for raising healthy generations.

“Milk and dairy products are a vital food recommended for consumption at every stage of life. According to the data, it is recommended that every individual consume 2–3 glasses of milk a day to lead a healthy life until the age of 70. Just one glass of milk can meet 33 percent of calcium requirements, 30 percent of phosphorus requirements, 20 percent of potassium requirements, 24 percent of vitamin B2 requirements, 7 percent of vitamin A requirements and 14 percent of protein requirements. In light of this information, we are celebrating our 53rd year on the path we have embarked upon to raise healthy and happy generations. We are bringing products to market to suit different tastes and expanding into international markets, working to ensure that the efforts of dairy farmers reach people of all ages across every region. Initiatives to boost milk consumption—a beverage of great value for health—are therefore of the utmost importance,” she explained.

“With a sense of social responsibility, we support initiatives that encourage milk consumption and invite everyone to drink two glasses of milk a day,” she added…
