HÜSEYİN ARSLAN: SUGAR EXPORTS INCREASED BY 160 TIMES IN QUANTITY

Hüseyin Arslan, Chairman of the Board of the Mediterranean Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association (AHBİB), announced that they achieved an export of 136.9 million dollars in September with an increase of 48 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

“Our sugar exports increased by 160 times in quantity and 81 times in value”

Noting that the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on international markets continue and they also continue to produce and export despite the high surges in cost items, Arslan stated that they gave 16 percent support to the sector exports of 847.6 million dollars in September.

Arslan said, “When we evaluate our regional exports in September according to product groups, pulses products ranked first with a value of 40.3 million dollars and a share of 29 percent. This was followed by pastry products with a value of 28.9 million dollars and vegetable oils with a value of 17.5 million dollars. In September, we had the highest rise in export volume in sugar. We achieved an increase of 8 thousand 128 percent in our 3 thousand tonnes of sugar exports and earned 1 million 327 thousand dollars for our country.”

“Again this month, the product we exported most was red lentils, with an increase of 125 percent. Our red lentil sales of 27 million 450 thousand dollars constituted 20 percent of our regional exports,” Arslan added.
