TONNAGE DECREASED IN THE EXPORT OF FRESH FRUIT, VEGETABLES EXPORTS FOR THE FIRST QUARTER OF THE YEAR…

Ferhat Gürüz, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association, announced that Türkiye exported 971.2 million dollars worth of fresh fruit and vegetables between January and March 2025.

Underlining that there was a 20 percent decrease in quantity and a 1 percent increase in value compared to the same period last year, Ferhat Gürüz stated that they made more profit with less products in international markets.

“In the first quarter of the year, the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association supported the country-wide sector exports by 48 percent with a value of 466.4 million dollars,” said Ferhat Gürüz.

“We exported tangerines, lemons, peppers, pomegranates and cucumbers at higher prices”

Emphasizing that Türkiye transformed 1 million 107 thousand tonnes of products into value in foreign markets in the first quarter of the year, this figure was 272 thousand 74 tonnes lower than the amount in the same period last year, Gürüz explained, “Our sector managed to bring more foreign currency to our country with less products in the first three months of the year. Especially in tangerine, 22 percent decrease in quantity and 4 percent increase in value, 23 percent decrease in quantity and 23 percent increase in value in lemon, 7 percent decrease in quantity and 19 percent increase in value in pepper, 4 percent decrease in quantity and 16 percent increase in value in pomegranate and 7 percent decrease in quantity and 29 percent increase in value in cucumber.”

“When we examine the data, the fact that the sector managed to spike the total foreign exchange income despite the loss of 272 thousand 74 tonnes of quantity shows that the export strategy focuses on value rather than volume. The fact that the value of products such as lemon, pomegranate and pepper increased while the quantity decreased reveals that Türkiye exports these products at higher unit prices and to more selective markets. This situation indicates that the quality perception of Turkish fresh fruit and vegetable products in the international market has strengthened,” Gürüz added…
