“FOOD EXPORT TO JAPAN SURGES TO 217 MILLION DOLLARS”

Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EİB) Vice Coordinator and Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association Chairperson Birol Celep said that 50 percent of Turkish exports to Japan is on food while food exports made from Aegean region to this country reaches 80 percent.

Celep said, “While food exports to Japan reached 184 million dollars in 2018, it raised to 217 million dollars in 2019 and 2020. In 2020, our food export from the Aegean region to Japan was 74 million dollars. Fisheries, dried fruits, cereals, pulses and oil seeds, fruit and vegetable products, olives, olive oil are the sectors in which we are strong in the Asia-Pacific market. We can increase our food exports to Japan to 1 billion dollars.”

“The organic food market in the world reached 129.2 billion dollars with an increase of 23 percent. 75 percent of Turkey’s exports of organic products performed from us. We will develop our commercial relations with Japan with new collaborations and partnerships in a period when agriculture is experiencing its golden age and food security is at the top of the pandemic period,” Celep noted.

“In order to increase the export of food products to the Far East market, we have achieved a good momentum with the Turquality Project for Japan, South Korea and China markets. In 2020, our exports from the Aegean region to Japan reached 89 million dollars with a rise of 8 percent,” Celep added…
