Fevzi Çondur: We should carry on the success story in dried figs

Press release…

Aydın Commodity Exchange Provides Double Support to Dried Fig Producers…

The Aydın Commodity Exchange (ATB) has provided double support to producers in their fight against the aflatoxin and ochratoxin problem in dried figs, a product Aydın leads in both production and export. The ATB, which hosts sectoral meetings to combat the toxin problem, has decided to offer a 50 percent discount on laboratory and cold storage services to support producers in the new season.

The Aydın Commodity Exchange (ATB) continues to undertake significant efforts to combat the aflatoxin and ochratoxin problem in dried figs. It has held sectoral meetings with producers, traders and exporters to combat the toxins and continues its lobbying efforts with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Ministry of Trade on this issue. As the dried fig harvest nears its end, the ATB has made new decisions to support producers, traders, and exporters.

“We must continue the success story.”

Fevzi Çondur, Chair of the Aydın Commodity Exchange, stated that Türkiye, with the advantage of being the world’s leading fresh fig producer, also holds a leading position in dried fig production and exports.

Reminding that exports experienced setbacks last year due to aflatoxin and ochratoxin. Çondur said, “The traders and exporters are approaching purchases with greater caution. We must continue the success story we have achieved in fig production and exports over the last 20 years. We produce the world’s highest quality figs and the products purchased from our producers are delivered to the end consumer with added value through our exporters. The reason for the slower pace of purchases this season compared to previous years is that exporters are acting more cautiously after product returns last year due to ochratoxin and aflatoxin.”

“As the Commodity Exchange, we met with producers, traders and exporters to discuss the toxin issue in detail. We conveyed our opinions and assessments on the matter to the relevant ministries. The first shipment date for the 2025-2026 season of dried figs has been set as October 15, 2025. I believe that purchases will accelerate in the near future and exporters will begin packaging the new season’s products in their facilities.”
