Aydın Memecik Olive, which was applied by Aydın Commodity Exchange, was announced in the Official Journal of the European Union
Aydın Commodity Exchange Chairman of the Board of Directors Fevzi Çondur, who stated that Aydın Commodity Exchange has achieved successful results in the works carried out for the branding of agricultural values specific to Aydın province, made a statement regarding the announcement of Aydın Memecik Olive in the Official Journal of the European Union.
Pointing out that geographical indications are very valuable because they contain certain agro-ecological and cultural characteristics of a region, Çondur said, “At the same time, geographical indications have an important role in transferring localism to the nation, making the products produced in the countryside value-added and providing more income to the producer. After Aydın Chestnut, Aydın Memecik Olive Oil has been registered in the European Union and our Commmodity Exchange focuses on the European Union geographical indication studies in order to recognise the agricultural values of our province in the international market.”
“With the European Union geographical indication, we will introduce Aydın Memecik Olive, which provides added value to the economy of our province, to the whole world by protecting it from imitations. I would like to thank Huriye Özener, who carried out our consultancy during the European Union application phase of Aydın Memecik Olive along with Aydın Adnan Menderes University Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Horticulture, Department of Fruit Growing and Breeding Lecturer Professor Dr. Engin Ertan and everyone who contributed.
