Ferhat Gürüz, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association, announced that Türkiye’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports in July reached 206.1 million dollars with an increase of 5 percent compared to the same period last year. Stating that in the 7th month of the year, as the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, they exported 64.2 million dollars, Ferhat Gürüz also said that they supported the sector’s exports by 31 percent.
“We will continue to raise awareness on residue-free products”
Noting that the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, which carries out coordinator and secretariat services as the leader of the fresh fruit and vegetable sector in the country, has accelerated its activities to raise awareness about pesticide residues, which are banned in the European Union and prevent access to the market in question, Gürüz said, “We will continue to explain the importance of the issue and raise awareness by organising meetings, distributing posters and brochures.”
“We exported the most cherries, cherries, peaches and apricots in July”
Indicating that the Turkish fresh fruit and vegetable sector evaluated 164 thousand 947 tonnes of products in international markets in July, Gürüz explained, “We exported the most cherries, cherries, peaches and apricots in this period. In addition, when we examined the export performance of our sector in July according to product groups, the most exported product was cherry – sourcherry with a value of 66 million dollars. This was followed by peach with a value of 42.4 million dollars and apricot with a value of 18.3 million dollars. In the 7th month of the year, we achieved the strongest hikes in export volume in figs, potatoes, apples and cucumbers.”
“The countries we export the most are Germany, Russia and Iraq”
Commenting on Türkiye’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports in July according to the countries, Gürüz added, “In the 7th month of the year, our country reached the highest values in fresh fruit and vegetable exports in Germany, Russian Federation and Iraq markets. We exported 63.1 million dollars to Germany, 62.3 million dollars to the Russian Federation and 21.3 million dollars to Iraq. In July, our sector achieved the strongest increases in export volume in Greece, Syria and Iraq markets. We exported 1.5 million dollars to Greece with an increase of 356 percent, 1 million dollars to Syria with an increase of 343 percent and 21.3 million dollars to Iraq with an increase of 268 percent. Other markets where our exports accelerated in this period were Saudi Arabia, TRNC and United Arab Emirates.”
