Ferhat Gürüz, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association, announced that Türkiye’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports in April totalled 237.5 million dollars. Emphasising that they achieved a spike of 12 percent in the fourth month of the year compared to the same period last year, Chairman Ferhat Gürüz stated that 63 percent of the exports were clustered in Russia, Romania, Iraq, Ukraine and Germany.
Noting that the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, which carries out coordinator and secretariat services as the leader of the fresh fruit and vegetable sector in Türkiye, supported the sector’s exports by 42 percent with a value of 100.2 million dollars in April, Gürüz said, “Türkiye’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports in April revealed a remarkable picture. Although there was a decrease of 8 percent in quantity compared to the same period of the previous year, a spike of 12 percent in value was recorded and a total income of 237.5 million dollars was obtained. This situation revealed the transformation of the sector towards more value-added exports.”
Stating that the April export reports reveal a picture that reflects the strengthening of a sustainable growth trend on the basis of value, although there is a decrease in the country’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports on a quantity basis, Gürüz added, “Value-added product strategies, diversity in target markets and the integration of new exporting provinces into the system promise hope for the future of the sector. When supported by sustainable agricultural practices and quality-oriented production, we believe that Türkiye will further enhance its global competitiveness in fresh fruit and vegetable exports.”
