Press release…
Furniture, paper and forestry products exports exceed 5.5 billion dollars in 2020
As Furniture, Paper and Forestry Products Exporters’ Association, we host three important sub-sectors such as furniture, paper and non-wood forest products.
In the exports of our three sectors, we reached the export figure of 2019 by exceeding the level of 5.5 billion dollars by 2020.
When we look at the Aegean Region, we signed an export of 695 million dollars in 2020. We also managed to reach last year’s export figures.
Although we targeted an export increase of 10 percent at the beginning of 2020, I can say that we have performed well considering the negative effects of the Covid-19 epidemic on world trade.
In our sectors, we have 1780 exporter member companies in the Aegean Region. 67 percent of our 695 million dollar export was made by the first 25 companies.
We export to 180 countries from the Aegean region, this number reaches to 220 countries from Turkey. We export mostly to Iraq, Israel, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States and Saudi Arabia as well as this year, Papua New Guinea, Dominican Republic, Namibia and Myanmar have been added among our markets.
Our target markets are countries with high import potential, such as the USA and People’s Republic of China, to which we currently export.
If we look at the added value created in our industry, our average unit price is 1.51 dollars across Turkey, but as of the Aegean Region, it is 2.12 dollars. I can say that we are providing an added value over 40 percent across Turkey.
Of course, these numbers are far behind our targets. Our goal is to increase our unit export prices by producing and exporting value-added products through Design, R&D, Branding and innovation.
