Edirne Governor Yunus Sezer stated that they started to work to make Edirne a breeding heifer production centre of Türkiye.
In his speech at the Paddy Season Evaluation and Water Management Meeting held at Ipsala Commodity Exchange, Sezer said that they have been working for about 6 months to make Edirne a pilot province in terms of breeding heifer production.
Highlighting that the need for heifers in the country will be met with the project, Sezer said that the project was embraced by the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı and that Ziraat Bank will support the project in terms of financing.
Pointing out that Edirne will be an important place in animal husbandry, Sezer said, “We will hopefully turn Edirne province into a production warehouse centre in animal husbandry that will both feed the countr and sell to the Middle East and even Europe.”
Sezer also underlined that they have also started pasture improvement works to complete the project.
Emphasising that the current understanding of pasture is an obstacle to production, Sezer explained,
“We actively use the pastures here for a month and when the heat collapses, the pastures run out and dry up. We will make an application in the form of irrigating the pastures, planting fodder crops and using them primarily by the producers in the villages.”
“We have already started pilot implementation in 10 villages. Even in Ipsala Paşaköy, we will make a Pasture Irrigation Project, which will be the first in Türkiye and we will produce fodder plants. Our villagers and producers will use it. We will improve animal husbandry here by supplementing it with fodder plants,” Sezer added…
