Mehmet Kendirlioğlu, Head of Aydın Chambers of Agriculture said that last year, dried figs contributed 250 million dollars to the provincial economy.
Kendirlioğlu said, “Although the yield was low this year in Aydın region, the world’s production centre, the increase in prices made the producers happy. The fig, whose price was between 20-25 liras in wholesale last year, is traded between 30-35 liras this year.”
“We are the first in Turkey in the production of figs, chestnuts and olives for oil and the second across Turkey in cotton. Our region is mostly renowned of dried figs in the world,” Kendirlioğlu added…
