DRIED APRICOTS BRING OVER 24 MILLION DOLLARS IN TURKISH ECONOMY IN APRIL…

Malatya Commodity Exchange Chairman Ramazan Özcan said that April’s export figures made the region and the country’s economy happy.

Stating that they have increased in value this year compared to April last year, Özcan said, “Last year, we exported 7 thousand tonnes of dried apricots in April and earned 18 million dollars. In April this year, we provided an export of 7 thousand 138 tonnes of dried apricots and 24 million 401 thousand dollars. We estimate that the export figures will continue to increase in May and June.”

“WE HAVE GAINED 100 MILLION DOLLAR INCOME”

Özcan explained that a good picture emerged when looking at the figures in the first quarter of the year and said, “In the first 4 months of this year, we exported a total of 29 thousand tonnes and we earned 100 million dollars in revenue. Compared to the first 4 months of the previous year, we generated 13 million dollars more income.”

Reminding the support of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Malatya province and apricot producers, Özcan added, “The investments were made with the importance given by our President to Malatya. On the one hand, dried apricot licensed warehouse was established, on the other hand, our export revenues increased as Turkish Grain Board (TMO) supported dried apricots by making interventions on the product.”

“We expect our Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to share with the public a new base price that make the producers happy by continuing the decision to make intervention purchases,” Özcan concluded…
