Davut Er: Our goal is to export 10 thousand tonnes of olive oil to China!

The Turkish olive sector took its place at the 18th International Edible Oil Expo 2025 Fair held in Guangzhou, People’s Republic of China, between 12 and 14 June 2024.

Turkish exporters plan to export 10,000 tonnes of olive oil to China, which currently imports 30,000 tonnes of olive oil and is expected to import 100,000 tonnes of olive oil within five years.

The Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association (EZZİB) is focusing on marketing activities in line with the Ministry of Trade’s ‘Distant Countries Strategy’ to convert Türkiye’s increasing olive and olive oil harvests into added value in recent years.

Pointing out that China is the world’s largest market with a population of 1.4 billion, Davut Er, Vice Chairman of the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters Association, said that 500 million people in China have high incomes and can afford to consume olives and olive oil, and that they want to increase the export volume of Turkish olives and olive oil to the Chinese market.

Er stated that the China International Import Expo, which will be held in China between 5-10 November 2025, is a great opportunity for the Turkish olive and olive oil sector.

Pointing out that Türkiye has made significant investments in the olive sector over the past 25 years, Er said, “Our olive tree stock, which was 90 million at the beginning of the 2000s, has reached 205 million. China is a market where we can increase our exports arithmetically to turn our harvest into added value. At the China International Import Expo, where the Turkish National Participation Organisation is being handled by the Aegean Exporters’ Associations, we will hold olive and olive oil tasting events. It is expected that olive oil consumption in China, which currently stands at 30,000 tonnes, will reach 100,000 tonnes in five years.”
